I'm sitting in my room in the East Village, facing a quiet street and a bright moon hanging in the sky. I haven't been in New York much lately. I was in Denmark over the holidays, then Los Angeles for a few days, New York for a week, Denmark again for a big concert, and then back to New York (I'm becoming very good friends with the airplane staff, he he) If only I was going back to my beloved Japan soon. I think about it every day, as I turn the pages in my Kitty-chan calendar ;-) And I miss the おにぎり that I always get on the ANA flights! But, of course, that's not all that I miss...
The music keeps me very busy. Tonight I played at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel here in New York. It's one of the oldest and most famous hotels in the city, where Cole Porter used to live permanently... they still have his piano in one of the lounges, but I haven't played it yet. Tonight I sang "Night & Day" in Mr. Porter's honor, it's such a beautiful song. Also, many of the presidents stayed at this hotel, and there are rumors that a secret tunnel was built from the Grand Central Station to the hotel to transport one of the presidents underground. New York is a crazy place for sure!! After my performance tonight (still wearing long dress and lots of make-up), I stopped by my Japanese supermarket "Sunrise Mart" for groceries, and 2 guys were talking about my back in Japanese. "Kawaii desune blablabla", it was so funny! Suddenly I turned around and said "すみませんが、もっとはずかしです！" They both jumped up SO surprised!! Then, we all started laughing. I guess it's not that often that a blond girl on 9th Street speaks Japanese :-D
Tomorrow I'm singing at "The Zipper Theater" on Broadway with my band, so I'm writing the set list now, having a cup of tea, and sending all my warmest thoughts to you. If you look up on the moon tomorrow night, maybe you can hear my song. I will sing all of my heart out for you - across the pacific ocean!
